Greetings homestead fans, I hope each and every one of you had a happy, safe and healthy Thanksgiving. Ours was fairly quiet and a good one.
It’s certainly no doubt winter is upon us! Whew we had a snow storm blow in the beginning of the week and just prior to that and after we’ve been hit with freezing temps at night and daytimes of only in the high 20’s to 30’s. Yep, baby it’s cold outside!
Today, November 30, is Larkin and Spencers’ First Birthday! My little cobby Pygmy babies are now officially One year old. While a Pygmy goat isn’t fully grown til at least 1-1/2 years old, these littles certainly have grown and filled out and have taken on that sweet, beautiful Pygmy shape we all love. It’s certainly been a year of fun watching them grow, become even more lovable and develop their unique personalities. Hubby and I sure do love these little chubby, friendly faced critters and they’ve been a sweet blessing to our little farm 😊
We did wind up having a loss this week. Sadly, our hen Aspen went on to be pecking in chicken heaven. Aspen was one of four Buff Orpingtons we had adopted a little over a year ago. At that time, we acquired Drake our duck along with the four Buffs who we named Tess, Aspen, Stella and Nugget and a Barred Rock-Roxanne and our two Easter Eggers Olivia and Phoebe. We never did get an answer on how old the chickens were, we know Drake wasn’t even a year old so not sure if the chickens were about the same or older. I do know Tess had a period of not doing well, but I tended to her and since then she’s been doing ok, not great but ok. Needless to say I was quite surprised to find Aspen gone and Tess doing ok! Those two had been hanging low together and who knows what happened. She’ll be missed and was a sweet girl.
Just as I was about to sit down in my chair to write this, I turned around and saw my Border Collie puppy Austin licking my morning cappuccino!!! Ugh!!! There goes that first cup! Apparently, just like me he likes his coffee! Makes me realize even more that the Christmas gift of a new custom collar I’m ordering through Etsy is juuuuuust perfect! Once “Santa Puppy” brings it to him, photos will follow. I found a shop that specializes in these collars and found one that she’s doing with Border Collies and different cups of coffee, lattes and cappuccinos on it! Perfect for me since I’m a lover of both! But oh this puppy! He’s certainly a character and brings lots of laughs to this house for sure!
With the holiday shopping season in full swing, online shopping is what this gal loves to do! Although I do like to support our small local people and friends who make custom items, online is so easy to do and especially when you live in a rural area AND when the weather is really nasty out! As an owner of two internet based business’, I also “shop in my own mall”, giving gifts that people love to receive and. well. I also get paid to shop in my own mall!
As always…keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you’re up to! If you enjoyed this post, please follow, share with others who you think would enjoy or benefit from it and sign up so you don’t miss a thing and also for my weekly newsletter. Have an Outstanding Day!
