Perfect Moments

Well it’s no secret that fall is definitely here for us! The last few weeks have been a bit hectic but in a fun way.  With a few days of getting ready prior to going deer hunting and then being away at deer camp for twelve days then coming home and getting back in the swing of things.  Internet service wasn’t something I’d call great way up in the mountains so getting any type of posts out wasn’t happening.

I am happy to report that I got my deer at 8:00 am on opening day and my hubby got his a few days later, so needless to say there’s plenty of deer steaks, pepperoni and salami in the Frisendahl freezer!

This time around our usual gal who helps with the farm animals in our absence wasn’t available. It’s bound to happen once they reach a certain age, graduate and get jobs.  But it’s ok, I reached out to our local FFA and sweet gal was referred to me to help.  I’m happy to report that it went well and she will be helping us out again in the future.  Many of us are faced with this issue at some time or another and I highly recommend contacting your local FFA (Future Farmers of America) or even local 4H.  Either one of these can put you in contact with someone who’s able to help you out.

Our chickens had been pretty heavy into molting prior to us going away, while I do have nine young girls who were laying, I was still getting over nine eggs daily.  Normally, during molting eggs can be scarce for 4-6 weeks, however, my girls were still laying….while not as many, nonetheless still laying.

I do have to say that some month’s back I had permanently switched their food over to PenPals Layer feed.  A local hardware store carries in and it’s very convenient for me to pick it up there. I had used it on and off when I was running low and as I mentioned, this is close and convenient.  However, I was noticing they seemed to eat less, the better the quality feed, the higher the nutrients for them and they fill up better without having to consume a lot of feed.  After noticing this, I happened to be reading something from one of the hatcheries I use and they had recommended PenPals and listed all the goodness about it. Well I was hooked! The high quality has to be the reason for less feed consumption and great production along with molting chickens who apparently still were laying (disclaimer: which this could be just a fluke and I’m not saying that anything in particular will keep them laying during the molt).

The ladies are finally starting to “look nicer” once again and some are sporting the latest in this years “fall fowl outerwear”.

For now, please enjoy some photos from over the last couple of weeks.

As always…keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you’re up to!  If you enjoyed this post, please follow, share with others who you think would enjoy or benefit from it and sign up so you don’t miss a thing and also for my weekly newsletter. Have an Outstanding Day!
