Hi Homestead fans,
It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the Labor Day weekend already….I guess I say this every year, how fast summer goes. Funny, as a kid I remember summer vacation feeling like it was forever, well I guess it’s cause all we did was play and had no worries, cares or responsibilities so it all was one big long day 😊. Never forget when my grandma told me summer is short – only ten weeks…haha to which I replied “oh right gran, summer is sooooo long” oh boy I learned a lot since!!!
We continue to have summer weather with no hint of fall here. Our summer “crops” are all doing good and we’ve been enjoying some along with deciding what I’ll plant and not plant next season. Hubby and I spend beautiful evenings out in our gazebo just soaking in all the rural country beauty and sounds. The chickens are producing nicely despite the fact that some of my ladies are starting to go into their first molt and honestly I hope they all go through it soon and fast in order to make sure they have their new fluffy coats for the cold months ahead.
I will admit, it took a lot of strength last week to pass up chicks that had just come into the local farm and feed store. Especially the little lavender breed…oh boy!!! But even though any time can be the right time for chicks, I do like to plan when I have them in order to make the transition from house to coop easier on them, so I tend to get more in the spring. Also, we have upcoming trips and I don’t want to have to worry about them while we’re gone.
Here on the homestead we’re getting ready for the long end of summer weekend (yikes did I really just say that)😲 This time we’re headed to the desert and I’m hoping to find more old homesteads….I have a huge fascination for them and every time we find them it’s so cool and make for great photography fun. Funny to think that perhaps some day in the distant future, others will be finding our old homestead and imaging life on it!
I’ve also been busy doing design work for some clients and that’s always fun to do along with my daughters upcoming wedding invitations……ones which are oh so special!!!!!😉 Always nice to be able to give that added custom touch!
Duck egg sales have been going well too! I swear it’s like finding dinosaur eggs with these two girls…and today I noticed Aflac has made quite a nice nest for herself. Finding duck or chicken eggs just never gets old! Chickens and ducks, the pets that poop breakfast!!!
Please enjoy the photos and I hope everyone has a safe and happy long holiday weekend!
