Homestead Excitement

Well this day certainly had some excitement in it!  Today we got our first duck egg!

As I walked into the duck yard, I started saying to my girls Truffles and Aflac…just as I do every day lately…”so when are you girls………..” STOP! What to my wondering eyes does appear but an egg…a lonely egg in the middle of the lawn 😊  As I bent down to pick it up, I thought maybe one of my chickens laid it but they weren’t in there yesterday and last night when I closed up the ducks, that egg was not there!! Excitedly I said to my girls, thank you so much, to whichever one of you laid this beauty!!  I showed it to my three amigos….dogs as my puppy Austin laid there so nicely observing what I was doing!  Pretty soon I’ll be able to offer duck eggs for sale as well and of course I can’t wait to eat these myself, I’m told they’re very rich and delicious, bakers and chefs love them!  Duck butt nuggets!

Today I also added two more nesting boxes to my main coop.  I know I’ll be changing these out like I did my first ones, but in an effort to maybe keep the girls a little calmer when all the boxes are full or another lady is in someones favorite box, I found two old milk crates in our barn and using them for now.  Most anything a chicken can safely and happily and comfortably get into will work. I considered using a large flower pot but then thought, nah not growing chickens….yet ha!

As I write this, the pokey little puppy is under my desk taking a break, with his sister not far away and his “moo” on standby too!  Today is three weeks that I have Austin, and in that time he’s done very well.  Every now and then he’ll have a pee accident, but usually I’m able to catch him in time, however, as most puppy owners know, it’s inevitable at such an early age. The little guy is only eight weeks old and while I did forget some of puppy-hood, I remember enough to know they have tiny bladders and have to learn to hold it.  He does pretty good going all night, after his last trip outside, he walks right into his crate and settles down and sleeps all night long so he’s holding it and I can’t ask for more than that.

Tonight is date night for hubby and I and something we always look forward to.  No matter how long a couple is together, it’s always nice to have a date night, ours is every Friday and always fun.

As always…keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you’re up to!  If you enjoyed this post, please follow, share with others who you think would enjoy or benefit from it and sign up so you don’t miss a thing and also for my weekly newsletter.    Have an Outstanding Day!
