How Healthy is Your Skin

A topic that not many talk about is skincare and their routine.  As the owner of a health and wellness business for eleven years, skincare is my thing.  I’m very in tuned to people’s skin and on many occasions have struck up a conversation leading to that, especially when I know that I have something that can help them.

I don’t care where you live, what you do, whether you’re a very rural homesteader or urban homesteader no matter what,  your skin is the body’s largest organ and you only get one skin so why not take the best care of it that you can.

There’s six mistakes (listed below) people make with skincare, that in addition to being harmful both outward and inwardly, also can attribute and accelerate the aging process. While genetics do play a large role in how quickly you will age, research has shown that habits you develop and the choices that you make through your life may play a bigger role than where and when your parents got their first wrinkles.  Genetics play some part, but it’s been shown that you can control up to at least forty percent of the aging process.  I don’t know about you, but to me that’s a big amount I can control and will.  I’m 62 and for a good part of my early life I can admit I probably “abused” my skin a bit, but for the most part I’ve taken good care of it, especially the last eleven years I’ve used 100% Pure, Safe, Beneficial and Superior products on and in my body.

I believe in natural, organic, botanical products, after all what goes on your skin   enters into your bloodstream within twenty-six seconds!! Considering all the toxins out there, that’s pretty scary and not something I’m willing to risk.

Another misconception is that if something is labeled or advertised as “All Natural” or “Natural” that it’s safe, not so!  Look at it this way, asbestos and poison ivy are natural but they’re certainly not safe.  Also, for a product to be 100% Safe  it must have something to preserve it or within twenty four hours it could go rancid…yuck!  An antioxidant is also essential for product safety.

So just what are these six mistakes you ask, well here they are:

  1. Using products that contain *mineral oil (see other names for mineral oil) an occlusive
  2. Products containing SD alcohol (this encourages skin to produce more oil, which can lead to acne
  3. Sleeping in makeup! No no no! Plus it makes for nasty pillow cases
  4. Unprotected sun exposure to UVA and UVB rays
  5. Bad skincare routine(s)
  6. Using products containing *animal by products

The first one is a biggie for sure! An occlusive can clog skin pores. *Mineral oil is also a nasty by product of crude oil, it’s the very top layer that’s skimmed off and the least expensive way to dispose of it is to sell it to personal care product companies.  It’s petroleum pure and simple.

Four that are on the list are self explanatory.  *The sixth one refers to any and all parts that are used in personal care products and I mean any and all. The personal care industry is huge and sadly the easiest and lowest cost means to dispose of many toxic and no no ingredients is to those companies, it’s both disgusting and pretty sad what’s in many products that are in many households.  So before you consider purchasing skincare, cosmetics or health and wellness products, take a good hard look at the ingredients and consider just what’s in that bottle or jar 🙂
